The Ducati Scrambler was the brand name for a series of single cylinder scrambler motorcycles made by Ducati for the American market on 1962. Its creation is attributed to the American Berliner Motor Corporation. It underwent continual modification until 1968, when the true Scramblers with "wide-casing" engines were brought out, first in the 250 and 350 versions and then, in 1969, the 450. The Ducati Scrambler 450 was aesthetically the same as the 350 version, it was marketed in a very bright yellow with some chrome on the tank. The production of the Scrambler 250 and the 350 in 1972 was entrusted to the Spanish company Mototrans, them assembled at its facilities in Barcelona. The Scrambler was fitted with a single-cylinder engine designed by Fabio Taglioni, the handle was off to a suitable driving off the road and wings were painted in the same color as the body. In 1968 the Ducati Scrambler was marketed in Italy, bound to become one of the most beloved bikes in that country. The Scrambler series included a few bikes with Desmo cylinder heads, and was subjected to continual technical adjustment right up until 1974, when production was halted.

The reasons for the Scrambler's commercial success were manifold. It had an excellent frame (it was even used for track racing, which is probably unprecedented in motorbike history) and an engine perfectly suited for its function. It was not the fastest bike of its day, but its general performance and absolutely centered riding position, made it one of the most delightful machines of the era. It was an extremely fashionable bike, and remains popular today. The Scrambler was considered a balance between American and European schools of motorcycling. The Scrambler was extremely stylish; rounded lines, simultaneously classical and modern, and bright colors contrasting with the black running gear and chromo gas tank.
