Description:

This 1948 Lincoln Continental is one of 847 coupes produced for the model year and was refurbished prior to being purchased by us. The car is finished in green over two-tone green leather and cloth upholstery, and power comes from a 292ci V12 paired with a column-shifted three-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Features include an electric fuel pump, driving lamps, rear fender skirts, a rear-mounted spare tire carrier, hydraulically operated power windows, an AM radio, and a heater.

Interior:

The cabin features front and rear benches trimmed in two-tone green leather and cloth upholstery. Green Wilton wool carpets were installed in 2010, and equipment includes hydraulically operated power windows, a heater, cowl ventilation, and an AM radio. The burgundy two-spoke steering wheel features a chrome horn ring and frames a 110-mph speedometer and gauges for water temperature, oil pressure, amperage, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 8k miles but total mileage is unknown.

Exterior:

The 1946-1948 Continental was restyled by Raymond Loewy and features chrome bumpers with rear overriders, driving lamps, push-button door handles, rear fender skirts, and a third brake light mounted aft of the spare tire. This example is said to have been repainted in factory Valley Green during the refurbishment and features a driver-side mirror, rear vent windows, quarter panel stone guards, and a turned-down chrome exhaust tip.

Drivetrain:

The 292ci flathead V12 was the last offered by an American manufacturer and was repainted in June 2021. The engine is noted to seep oil after being turned off. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a three-speed manual transmission with an overdrive function that was overhauled in 2021. An electric fuel pump was installed during the refurbishment. Body-color 15” steel wheels wear chrome covers and are mounted with McCreary Park Avenue whitewall bias-ply tires. A painted spare wheel is mounted out back, and the included body-color cover can be seen in the gallery. The Continental rode on a 125″ wheelbase, and suspension comprises transverse leaf springs front and rear. Stopping power is provided by hydraulically assisted four-wheel drums. Replacement wheel cylinders were installed in 2021.
